About the event
The four-volume academic masterpiece, *A History of Chinese Immigration in Canada (1858-2001)*, by Canadian historians of Chinese immigrants Li Quan'en, Ding Guo, and Jia Baoheng, was published by China Huaxia Publishing House in May 2022. The book contains 1.64 million words and is divided into four volumes: Social Sciences (Volume 1 & 2) and Culture and Education (Volume 1 & 2).
The Social Sciences Volume (Part 1) comprises 12 chapters, covering the history of Chinese immigration, population, and the development of overseas Chinese communities from 1858 to 1966. Content includes the historical background of Chinese laborers going abroad, the wave of immigration during the period of free entry and exit, Chinese participation in the construction of the Pacific Railway, the establishment of Chinatown and the overseas Chinese community, the occupational and political/economic status of Chinese, anti-Chinese incidents and the resistance of overseas Chinese, the relationship between the Qing government and…
